Driving side

In Japan, vehicles drive on the left-hand side of the road.

Speed limits

Stay within these limits to ensure a safe and legal drive:

• Urban Areas: 40 km/h (25 mph)
• Rural Roads: 50-60 km/h (31-37 mph)
• Expressways: 80-100 km/h (50-62 mph)

Traffic signals and signs

• Directional Arrows: Indicate permitted turns at intersections.
• Stop Signs: Japan’s stop signs are triangular and marked with "止まれ" (tomare), meaning stop.
• Priority Signs: Watch for "yield" and "no entry" signs to navigate intersections and restricted zones safely.

Drinking and driving

Japan enforces strict drunk driving laws.
